  • OCDE’s Newsroom also has been updated and will continue to post information on the novel coronavirus as the situation evolves - OCDE Newsroom for updated

  • While experts say there is no harm in wearing surgical masks, it is not considered an effective way to prevent the spread of influenza and other airborne respiratory viruses. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention does not recommend that Americans wear masks in public. Instead, CDC officials continue to promote preventative measures including frequent and thorough hand-washing, avoiding contact with people who are sick, and staying home if you experience symptoms associated with the flu.

The OC Health Care Agency will issue new guidance should circumstances change, and OCDE will share this information as it is released.  In the meantime, the CDC continues to advise regular preventative measures to help prevent the spread of respiratory viruses, including hand-washing and covering up coughs and sneezes.
